At the Kellogg Company's Omaha cooking facility, rice is used to make many of our popular Kellogg's cereals. The rice gets cooked with steam, then water is used again to cool the steam as it vents from the rice cookers. In the past, the water used to cool the steam ran all the time.
Two Kellogg employees, Josh M. and Tom S., identified the need for an IT team to install an automated system that uses the water only when it is necessary, moving from 24 hours/day to 17 min/batch of rice.
Thanks to the proactivity of these employees, we are now saving the planet 7.1 million gallons of water per year!
